Environmental Interpretive Center

INTRO

The Environmental Interpretive Center is a hidden gem in the University of Michigan Dearborn campus. The center needed a new look and more engaging exhibits. Looking for help, the E.I.C teamed up with College for Creative Studies Communication Design and Interior Design majors.

Our group aimed to show the beauty of nature year-round and the essence of radual changes that follow the patterns of nature and reflect this within the center. These patterns in nature are micro seasons, which showcase the beauty in the changes throughout the year. The visual language uses circular curves and gradients to show the smooth movements inspired by nature.

CONCLUSION

Left shows a physical mock-up of the exhibit above. This exhibit was built out for the final presentation to make everyone’s imagination match ours.

The wall features slide-out info-graphics that are changeable with the micro seasons, showcasing facts about what is currently happening in nature around the center.

Lights hidden behind the relics poster have settings that can be changed with each micro season at just a push of a button to match every color in our cycle of the year.

Leave your mark on the EIC! When going on nature walks It’s only natural to want to pick up a piece of nature on your way through the woods. Visitors can leave their mark by taking their’s into the center to have It identified and displayed.
